BMX TRACK HAS MEREDITH GEARED UP FOR ADVENTURE

Daredevils of all ages will soon be defying gravity on their bikes and skateboards in Meredith, thanks to a brand-new BMX track, playspace and upgraded skatepark at Meredith Recreation Reserve.

Member for Eureka Michaela Settle today joined Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Cunningham to officially open the Meredith BMX Track, Skatepark and Playspace, made possible by a $420,000 investment from the Victorian Government’s Community Support Fund.

The idea for the project was first proposed by Meredith Primary School students and Mayoral Youth Award winners Harley Murfitt and Max Love, who dreamed of building bigger and better facilities for BMX riders in the town.

Those dreams have now come true, with a new BMX track and playspace installed at the reserve, as well as upgrades to the existing basketball area and skatepark.

That means locals now have a BMX track of more than 100 metres suited for beginner to intermediate riders, featuring 1.2 metre-high box jumps, a mogul run and starting platforms, and a playspace with seating, and shade trees.

These upgrades make Meredith Recreation Reserve a perfect spot for the community to come together to ride, skateboard, practise their hoops, play, and relax.

It’s part of more than $1.9 billion invested by the Victoria Government in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.

Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field, and fast-tracking community projects by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.

Michaela Settle MP also acknowledged Golden Plains Shire Council for its commitment and financial contribution of more than $480,000 to the project.
