PREMIER PAVILION OPENS AT DARLEY PARK

The Darley community can now enjoy more activities and events together at their new multi-purpose sport and recreation pavilion, backed by the Victorian Government.

Member for Eureka Michaela Settle joined Moorabool Shire Council Mayor Rod Ward and Member for Melton Steve McGhie on Saturday to officially open the Darley Park Community and Sports Centre.

The new pavilion will allow for scheduling of multiple community events to occur at the same time and support the increasing demand for sports participation in the area.

More community groups now have a new home in the centre, which is set up with three new multipurpose community spaces, office space, storage spaces, a kitchen and other amenities to allow for large scale events.

The new facilities cater for all local residents with accessible and inclusive spaces and amenities that address public safety and entry requirements.

The pavilion will also boost opportunities for female participation in sport with new female-friendly player and umpire change rooms.

The project was supported by $2.5 million in funding from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, which provides crucial community infrastructure for local communities.

Ms Settle acknowledged the Moorabool Shire Council for its contribution of over $2.3 million to the project, and the Darley Football Club and Darley Junior Football Netball Club for their contribution of $363,000.

The Growing Suburbs Fund is a $435 million investment over nine years into critical local infrastructure in Melbourne’s diverse and fast-growing outer suburbs.

Since 2020-21, over $13.4 million has been invested in five projects delivered by Moorabool Shire Council through the Growing Suburbs Fund, including the Ballan Library and Community Hub project and the West Maddingley Early Years and Community Hub.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eureka Michaela Settle

“The Darley Pavilion is now a wonderful state-of-the-art home for community events and sporting groups. We know sporting clubs are at the heart of regional communities, and it’s important they have top-notch facilities to continue enjoying the sport they love.

This new pavilion is a great addition for Darley and may just help support the growth of the next Zac Butters!”
